Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir

Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir

Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir – Really bright colour and lovely vibrant fruit; young, juicy and lots of fun with a touch of spice playing support to delicious cherry fruit; certainly a wine to be enjoyed and not necessarily in moderation.

Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir Smells of cranberry, boysenberry, cherry and earthy dried spices, Tastes like velvety dark fruits, with soft savoury tannins. It goes well with Mushroom pizza, Charcuterie plates, and Pasta with meaty ragu. Just 100% totally drinkable and awesome.

The Innocent Bystander story – Innocent Bystander creates wines that are delicious expressions of what we love to make and drink. They’re perfect for exploring iconic varieties from our home in the Yarra Valley as well as inspiring varieties from elsewhere in Victoria.
If we can’t make it great, we don’t make it at all. Our wines are made with quality fruit and a soft touch, with vinification that includes hand-picking, wild yeast and whole bunch ferments. We’re not judgemental about wine; we know there are people who love Moscato and bubbles as well as those searching for an exceptional Yarra Valley Pinot Noir and our range of wines reflects that.
We don’t make single vineyards wines, but we do know that great wines need great fruit, so we source the best grapes we can from some of the top vineyards in the Yarra Valley and if there’s a variety we want to make that doesn’t grow well here, we’ll get the fruit from elsewhere. Our winemaking team treat every parcel of fruit individually to ensure their characters shine through in the finished product, showing off the very best of the varieties and regions they represent to make flavoursome, balanced and delicious wines.

Innocent Bystander

“Innocent Bystander is a Yarra Valley based winery producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir alongside several emerging varietals including Pinot Gris, Moscato, Sangiovese & cool climate grown Shiraz. The label first came about when the Giant Steps team decided to produce wines from the many brilliant vineyards they came across in the Yarra Valley and beyond.
A visit to the winery in Healesville`s main street is a fascinating experience. Built around gravity flow principles and designed for hand making small batches of wine, the winery is an exercise in function over form, much like the strongly expressed views of its owners and winemaking team.
These are approachable, drinkable wines that deliver abundant fruit flavour – their winemakers like to think of them as “a bloody good drink!” “

Yarra Valley

The Yarra Valley is Victoria’s oldest vineyard area dating from the 1830s when three brothers, William, James and Donald Ryrie established a cattle property Yering Station. They planted vines; an act recorded as the first vineyard planting in Victoria. A few years later immigrants from Switzerland and Germany settled in the area. They planted commercial quantities of wine grape and established wineries. Among them St Huberts, Yering and Yerinberg produced wines to international acclaim and anchored the Yarra Valley’s reputation in the 1800s. Then came the depression of the 1890s. It was a major factor in the region’s decline along with other factors such as the consumer shift to fortifieds. By the 1920s the last winery ceased operations. The industry was resuscitated by medical doctors in the 1960s who caught the markets’ return to table wines. Mount Mary vineyard established by Dr John Middleton was a pioneer of the second wave. The third wave came in the 1980s with the arrival of James Halliday, de Bortoli and the prestigious Moet & Chandon. Since this time there has been a phenomenal growth. Hundreds of hectares came under the vine and millions invested in wineries. Now many of the ‘big guns’ of the Australian wine industry have a Yarra address. The climate is regarded as cool (cooler than Bordeaux and slightly warmer than Burgundy). The main wine styles: White – Chardonnay; Red – Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz.
