Devils Corner Pinot Noir

Devils Corner Pinot Noir

Devils Corner Pinot Noir

Bright cherry red with purple tinges. Rich, spicy plum fruit aromas with hints of black cherry and strawberry and an underlying touch of savoury. Mouthfilling fruit with ripe plum and cherry flavours and hints of spicy and savoury complexity.

Tamar Ridge Devils Corner Pinot Noir is sourced from vineyards in the Tamar valley and the east coast of the island. Tamar Ridge is a relative newcomer, with their first vines planted in 1994 and the first wines produced in 1999. They produce a range of cool climate wines including Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. They have three vineyards. Their main one is Kayena Vineyard in the lower Tamar Valley, White Hills Vineyard towards the top of the Tamar Valley and Coombend Vineyard in the east coast of Tasmania. Devils Corner Pinot Noir is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the Tamar valley and the east coast of the island. The use of vineyards from different areas allows Tamar Ridge to be able to blend each vintage to produce a consistent, complex and richly flavoured wine. The grapes were crushed and fermented in their skins in static fermenters using an air maceration technique. This allows gentle extraction of colour and tannins yet retains elegance and restraint in the wine. Tamar Ridge was bought by the famous Australian wine producers Brown Brothers in August 2010 and is also home to Pirie wines.

The whole island of Tasmania is an official wine zone and whilst the island is not `regionalised`, northern and southern Tasmania provide quite distinct viticultural areas. The island has a range of microclimates and soil types which gives the island its diversity of character. Central to the exploration of the northern vineyard areas is the city of Launceston located on the banks of the Tamar River. Southern Tasmania incorporates wine areas that are within easy reach of Hobart and are carefully located for maximum exposure to the sun and protecting from the cold southerly winds.

Tamar Ridge

Great wines are made in the vineyard and it is the exceptional fruit grown at the Kayena Vineyard that forms the cornerstone of the Tamar Ridge and Devil`s Corner range of wines. Located on the western banks of the Tamar River, forty kilometres north of Launceston, the Kayena Vineyard is planted to a range of cool climate varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vision for Tamar Ridge is to produce premium quality wines highlighting the flavour, structure and elegance that are the hallmarks of true Tasmanian cool climate winemaking.
