Trentham Estate Pinot Noir

Trentham Estate Pinot Noir

INSPIRED BY OUR SURROUNDINGS WE REFLECT ON THE ESSENTIAL NATURE OF THE MURRAY DARLING TO CREATE WINES OF DISTINCTION AND SUSTAINABILITY.

THE GRAPES Pinot Noir makes some of the most famous wines in the world, but is a challenging variety; temperamental in the vineyard and needs nurturing in the winery. Picked from our best vineyard, the grapes ripened slowly and evenly to result in great fruit quality

THE WINEMAKING The grapes were de-stemmed and pumped through a chiller into the fermentation vessel at 5⁰C and cold soaked for 36 hours before yeast was added. Cold soaking is a winemaking technique used to increase the red berry characters in the wine. After the addition of yeast, the wine was fermented on skins for 5 days before pressing out. A portion of the wine was matured in French oak before blending and bottling.

THE WINE Cherry red with plum and spice aromas, berry fruit flavours with subtle French oak and a soft silky finish.

THE FOOD An excellent choice with an antipasto plate, light tomato-based pasta

Trentham Estate is proud to announce its continued commitment to water conservation and wetland restoration, through a new partnership with the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group Ltd.

Trentham Estate has long strived to provide support to localised Murray Darling research activities for sustainable water supply, quality and capacity. With the recent closure of the Lower Basin Laboratory in Mildura, it has looked to another respected organisation to support during a time of much strain on the local environment. For over 20 years, the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group Ltd has worked on wetlands throughout the Murray-Darling Basin, restoring and improving the management of wetlands throughout the catchment, of the Murray-Darling Basin.

Trentham Estate’s River Retreat label, now vegan friendly, will proudly continue Trentham’s dedication to corporate responsibility – whereby every bottle purchased of River Retreat wine will result in a donation towards the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group.

With many great projects currently underway in the far-west region of NSW, the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group will benefit greatly from these ongoing funds.

“We are thrilled to be able to contribute to the restoration of our precious river system and we are confident that the Murray Darling Wetlands Working Group will make a real difference within the river region.” says winemaker Anthony Murphy.

The 46 hectares that make up Trentham Estate’s vineyards sit on a winding riverbank at Trentham Cliffs. The ideal terroir of red loam over limestone soils combined with nurturing water from the Murray River allows the vines to flourish.

New South Wales

The first winery in the region was established in the 1880s by W.B. Chaffey (Mildura Wine Co at Merbein). Today there are around nine/ten wineries in this region. This may not sound so many for a large area, but they are some of the largest wineries and their production is enormous. References such as: ‘the industrial heartland of Australian wine production’, ‘the powerhouse of the Australian wine industry’ are often used to describe this region wine production. The climate is continental; hot and dry with low rainfall making it a relatively fungus disease free region thus reducing the risk for such large-scale production. The main wine styles: Chardonnay, Semillon.
