Hedonist Organic Tempranillo

Hedonist Organic Tempranillo

The Hedonist Tempranillo is a small batch red wine made by Walter Clappis Wines in the McLaren Vale wine-growing region. It is a biodynamic wine certified by NASAA. Walter Clappis has been making wine for 25 years and is considered to be one of Australia’s most outstanding Winemakers

Hedonist Organic Tempranillo is mouth-filling, elegant, flavoursome, red berries, integrated oak, but above all; soft and velvety.

COLOUR Dark cherry red with purple hues
BOUQUET Vibrant and fresh with red berries, sour cherries and rose water
PALATE Fresh light to medium-bodied palate. Sour cherry follows through, with hints of cinnamon and underlying earthy tones, finishing with fine cocoa tannins.

The fruit for the Hedonist Tempranillo is estate grown on our biodynamically run vineyard situated in the Willunga foothills, McLaren Vale. The idyllic St Vincent’s Gulf lies 10km to the West. The soil is rich loam over clay with patches of underlying limestone, giving the wine a rich and fullness of pallet.

This Tempranillo is made to be enjoyed now. It is made in what the Spanish call a ‘joven’ style – minimal to no oak influence, then released young with the intention to be consumed right away.
Traditionally vinified in open top fermenters and pumped over twice daily. 3 separate parcels were fermented for between 6-12 days on skins. Malolactic fermentation was completed in seasoned 300L French oak hogs heads. Seasoned oak
Matured for 4 months in seasoned 300L French Oak Hogs Heads
was selected for its minimal oak influence to keep the wine fresh and retain primary fruit characteristics.

South Australia

The McLaren Vale is predominately a red wine region, producing some of the best red wines in South Australia. Vineyards were first planted in the mid 1800s. One of the early pioneers Thomas Hardy established a business that evolved to BRL Hardy, one of the largest wine companies in the country. The region also has a healthy number of boutique wineries that consistently make fine wines and experiment with different wine styles. The climate is warm to hot with dry summers, and benefits from cooling breezes from the St Vincent Gulf. The main wine styles: Red – Shiraz (rich, ripe & generous), Cabernet Sauvignon; White – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc.

Tempranillo

Tempranillo is known for its sweet, plumy berry flavours that are balanced by savoury, dry tannins. Originally from Spain this grape is adapting well to new homes in Australia. In cool regions Tempranillo can be ‘spicy’ while warmer regions bring out sweeter fruity flavours but stronger tannins too.
