Vegan Red Wine Case

Great vegan wines in a mixed case of 6. Ideal as a present at any time. Vegan wines for Christmas, birthdays or just a celebration.

Vegan Red Wine Case

Our mixed cases, and bundles of wine are selected from our range of vegan wines. They represent great value, and we attempt to give you diversity as well as a vegan choice guaranteed by ourselves. You do not have to struggle to see whether a wine is vegan or not by looking at the minute print on the rear of the label. All that is doe for you and we check every item with the vineyards website to make sure that the wine is produced in the correct manner.

Do not therefore believe that all wines are vegan. They are not. The type of products often used in winemaking are shown below. Wines utilising any of these items can definitely not be classified as vegan wines.

Animal Products Sometimes Used in Winemaking:
Isinglass (from fish bladders)
Gelatin (from boiled cow or pig body parts)
Albumin (egg whites)
Casein (animal milk protein)

Fortunately, many winemakers use either vegan fining ingredients, or they skip the fining practice entirely by giving the wine some time to settle before decanting it into bottles.
Annoyingly, winemakers do not disclose fining ingredients on the label. But luckily, you can use the Internet to look up the status of most of the top brands. We are labelling the wines on our site which are vegan, however this is an on-going process. If in doubt about a Vegan Wine, you can always email the vineyard and ask. Producers often change their processes without giving the market any notice.

Soldiers Block Malbec

Soldiers Block Malbec

Soldiers Block Malbec – classically textured, violet in hue with an exotically perfumed nose.

All the Malbec fruit comes from an estate in the Swan Hill region where there are 5 hectares of Malbec (approximately 12.5 acres which produces 90 tonnes of fruit per vintage). The Malbec are on their own roots and were planted in 2000. With the age of the vines and the harsh growing conditions, the Malbec vines are less vigorous which leads to a more intense colour and flavour. The vines are trained on a two wire vertical trellis, drip irrigation and minimum fertilisation. All the vines are machine harvested at night between mid to late March and grown on red sandy loam soil with limestone clay base. Climate is Mediterranean with summer temperatures between 30 and 40°C. Total vineyard area is 1250 acres. Once the grapes have been crushed pressed and sent to the fermenter, the winery then pumps over 4 times a day. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks at 25°C for
three weeks. Malolactic fermentation takes place over 4 weeks. 50% of the blend is aged in French and American oak barriques for 3 months.

Black aromatic Malbec, with notes of black cherry fruit and flavours of summer pudding. Charming, soft, sumptuous but with a core grip and power that gives it length and the muscles for food.

Debajo Dry Farmed Carignan

Debajo Dry Farmed Carignan

Debajo Dry Farmed Carignan

Made from dry-farmed Carignan grown in Curico’s coastal mountains. Debajo means ‘beneath’ and refers to the vines’ struggle for water, digging their roots through the cracks in the dry earth to find water reserves deep beneath the ground.

Edgy, with good acidity and tannins but also has a lovely purity of blackberry and mulberry fruit. It has a long, fresh finish leaving you wanting more!

Grapes are sourced from unirrigated vines in the coastal mountains of Curico. A 15% Grenache blend adds flesh and juiciness to the wine.

Production

The humble Carignan variety can produce captivating wines when grown in adversity. In the coastal mountains of Chile, the grapes for Debajo wine are grown in an unirrigated, rocky vineyard where the vines’ roots have to burrow deep to find water, nutrients and minerals. This struggle results in a wine with great concentration of flavours.

Tasting notes

From dry-farmed bush vines in the Valle Central, this low yielding Carignan enjoys 15% Grenache. The nose is alive with fresh red berry compote with a touch of liquorice. The palate is hugely juicy, fresh with a gentle seam of tannin structure that is ultimately soft and supple. This is a juicy, aromatic bottle of joy!

El Infiernillo Pinot Noir

El Infiernillo Pinot Noir

El Infiernillo Pinot Noir

Vibrant raspberry and red cherry fruit lifts effortlessly out of the glass. The palate is rich yet delicate, with a supple finish. This is a wine which has plenty of hand crafted charm.

The Infiernillo vineyard sits in a sleepy corner of Maule, nestled up to the Andes Mountains. Loosely translated to ‘little hell’, Infiernillo gets its name from the Descabazado volcano which sits in the mountain range above. It’s a 60+ year old, 8 hectare Pinot Noir block which produces fantastic grapes and in this single vineyard wine, the wine makers aim is to capture the exuberance and freshness fostered in this ‘little hell’ site.

Coming from a single block of fruit planted back in 2000, the Pinot Noir grapes benefit from alluvial soils, a long ripening season and optimum diurnal temperature variation. In 2015, winemaker Eric Monnin sent 20 French oak barrels to Chile – half new oak and half second fill. These were used to age the wine, adding complexity and finesse. Barrels are then blended to create a wine with weight and complexity but still shot through with fruit. The result is clean, ripe fruit perfect for this modern Pinot.

This Casablanca grown Pinot Noir has bright wild strawberry aromatics, which follow through on a palate of cranberry, a touch of creme fraiche which finishes refreshingly crunchy and tart.

Bodegas Manzanos gives its name to the group of wineries that best represent the identity of the family Fernández de Manzanos. There are three wineries: Azagra and Haro in appellation Rioja and Campanas in appellation Navarra. In these wineries, the young team of the fifth generation of the family elaborate the quality wines that are acclaimed worldwide. Its quality is determined by its origin: their own vineyards.

Their vast area of vineyards in different locations of the appellations give them the power of playing with terroir nuances. In their wineries the exquisite elaboration process is demonstrated. In Rioja they own the emblematic and oldest winery of the appellation in Haro and their contemporary winery in Azagra, both using gravity as the principle of architecture for elaboration. Campanas is also the oldest winery in appellation Navarra. Eight years of sustained growth support these young people who win the respect and reputation of their wines day after day.

Protected by the appellation Rioja, Bodegas Manzanos owns 250 hectares in D. O. Ca. Rioja and controls 700 hectares more, 50 hectares in D. O. Navarra and controls 525 hectares more.  The company sums up a total of 1.525 hectares.

To ensure a good quality in the grapes, we have made a significant investment to transform the goblet-trained vineyard into trellises. The plantation in trellises is allowing us to obtain vineyards with a good physiological balance that produces grapes of great maturity and high ecological potential.

This system has also allowed us to install drip irrigation in all the vineyards, with which we ensure the water stability of the plants and favor a better quality of the grapes.

The harvest is mechanized throughout the vineyard in trellises, with special grape harvesters that exhaustively select the grape in its optimum state of maturity.

As for the climate, the climatic conditions, with wet and cold winters and dry and hot summers, and rainfall of less than 300 litres per square metre, are optimal for vine health, harmonious maturity and quality viticulture, situated to obtain great wines.

Circle of Life Red

Circle of Life Red

Circle of Life Red

A harmonious and integrated blend that combines the spiciness of the Syrah, the fresh fruits of the Petit Verdot and the juiciness from the Merlot. The beginning is fresh and fruity with good acidity, evolving into riper flavours and herbaceous notes, with elegant tannins and fine, bright acid in the finish. Circle of Life Red is a fantastic example of the huge potential of Cape red blends.

Circle of Life Red is neither defined by grape varietals, nor indeed a specific block within the vineyard, but instead encapsulates the myriad soils, aspects, altitudes and grape varieties found on this windswept, biodynamic farm. The windswept vineyard blocks are all south facing (less sun exposure), 200-350m above sea-level and a mere 2 miles from The Atlantic. These factors combine to produce low yields, balanced grapes and wines with a true sense of place. Production is a miserly 4 tons/hectare. Grapes are hand-harvested and brought to the cellar by horses for hand-sorting. Bordeaux varietals are de-stemmed, whilst Rhone varietals are not de-stemmed. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with wild yeast in large, open-top wooden fermenters with foot-pressing or manual punch-downs 1-2 times per day. The wine is left on skins for 30 days before going through malolactic fermentation in mainly old barrels, then ageing for 20 months in the same vessels. The components are then blended and the wine ages futher in large wooden foudre. No fining, just a light filtration. No additons other than sulphur. Vegan friendly, biodynamic wine. The final blend is made up of Syrah (31%), Petit Verdot (30%) and Merlot (39%).

Founded by Paul Boutinot in 2004, Waterkloof is a family-owned farm using organic practices. The farm is perched high up on the windswept Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay and The Atlantic Ocean. Living soils, naturally low yields and a long growing season help provide talented Cellarmaster Nadia Barnard with naturally balanced grapes that are imbued with a truly defining sense of origin. Those grapes are then transformed into wine with a minimum of intervention. The resulting wines are fine, inimitable and best enjoyed with food.
