Vegan Wine Mystery Case - Red

Vegan Wine Red Case – Premium

Vegan Wine Red Case – Premium

Fantastic selection of premium red wines valued at £94.43

Great vegan wines in a mixed case of 6. Ideal as a present at any time. Vegan wines for Christmas, birthdays or just a celebration.

Our mixed cases, and bundles of wine are selected from our range of vegan wines. They represent great value, and we attempt to give you diversity as well as a vegan choice guaranteed by ourselves. You do not have to struggle to see whether a wine is vegan or not by looking at the minute print on the rear of the label. All that is done for you and we check every item with the vineyards website to make sure that the wine is produced in the correct manner.

Do not therefore believe that all wines are vegan. They are not. The type of products often used in winemaking are shown below. Wines utilising any of these items can definitely not be classified as vegan wines.

Animal Products Sometimes Used in Winemaking:
Isinglass (from fish bladders)
Gelatin (from boiled cow or pig body parts)
Albumin (egg whites)
Casein (animal milk protein)

Fortunately, many winemakers use either vegan fining ingredients, or they skip the fining practice entirely by giving the wine some time to settle before decanting it into bottles.
Annoyingly, winemakers do not disclose fining ingredients on the label. But luckily, you can use the Internet to look up the status of most of the top brands. We are labelling the wines on our site which are vegan, however this is an on-going process. If in doubt about a Vegan Wine, you can always email the vineyard and ask. Producers often change their processes without giving the market any notice.

Araldica Barbaresco Corsini

Araldica Barbaresco Corsini

Araldica Barbaresco Corsini

Lifted aromas of red berry fruit, black cherries, savoury spice and violets. The palate combines dried cherry and plum fruit with warm smoky notes and a structured but supple finish.

An approachable style of Barbaresco packed with fine red berry fruit, yet still with all the classic darkly spicy and dried herb notes – fantastic value!

Made from Nebbiolo grapes from around the town of Barbaresco – covering all three communes of Treiso, Neive and Barbaresco. Soils are a mixture of clay and chalk, and vines are trained on low guyot trellis, with a plant density of 4,000 vines/ha. Manual harvest takes place in early October, yield 6 to 7 T/ha. Nebbiolo grapes are hand-harvested, de-stemmed and then crushed into small fermenters, for around 12 days, with daily pumping-over. This ensures good colour and flavour extraction, but avoids over extraction of the abundant Nebbiolo tannins. The wine is drained off at dryness and the skins transferred to a small press. After pressing the wine is settled for two days, and then racked to Slavonian oak botte and barrique, where it is aged for 2 years. Another 6 months maturation in bottle is completed before release.

Araldica is Piemonte’s most forward-thinking co-operative, situated in Castel Boglione, in the heart of Barbera d’Asti territory. Here they work with 230 grower members to source quality grapes from around 690ha of vineyards. Many of their members joined the co-operative in the 1950s and have a long and loyal relationhip with the winery. They produce wines from Piemonte’s main DOC / DOCG regions – predominantly Barbera, Gavi and Moscato, but also including Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero Arneis.

Araldica’s 140 associates, farming 900 hectares of vineyards, have obtained the SQNPI trademark – Sistema di Qualità Nazionale di Produzione Integrata (National Quality System of Integrated Crop Management). Wines and vintages that are now fully compatible with this system have a bee symbol on the label, which guarantees that each phase of production has complied with the strict parameters of integrated crop management. In other words, it is sustainable and eco-compatible, certified by an independent third party. Araldica is also developing a programme of organic viticulture.

Founded in 1954 by Livio Manera, father of the current Managing Director and winemaker Claudio Manera, Araldica has developed over the past 60+ years to become a major winemaking force in Piemonte, supplying wines across the globe.

Seriously Cool Cinsault

Seriously Cool Cinsault

Seriously Cool Cinsault

A fine and friendly expression of the Cape’s most under-rated variety. Bright fresh cherry fruits on the nose with a savoury, fynbos finesse. On the palate it has a cranberry freshness and texture with taut acidity and tremendous length.

Seriously Cool Cinsault is crafted from 50-60 year old bush-vine vineyards in the Helderberg area. The vineyards are close to the ocean, which ensure a long growing season and allows for ripe fruit with good concentration and a balanced acidity. Production from these grand dames of South African viticultural heritage is a miserly 4 tons/hectare. Grapes are hand-harvested and brought to the cellar, where the bunches are hand-sorted and fermented whole-bunch in large wooden fermenters. Alcoholic fermentation starts spontaneously inside the berry from the naturally occurring yeast. After around 3 days of this intracellular fermentation the grapes are punched down twice daily with feet to ensure that the berries are broken slowly and softly and not over extracted. The wine is kept on the skins for a minimum of 30 days. ‘Powered’ through gravity alone, the wine runs down to a tank below. The remaining berries, fall into the basket press where they are gently pressed. The soft pressing and the free-run are then placed together in second and third fill 600L French oak barrels to finish malolactic fermentation and the wine is then aged for 8 months. This wine expresses the grapes in their purest form and no fining agents were added. Only sulphur was added and no other additions, such as tartaric acid or enzymes were allowed.

Founded by Paul Boutinot in 2004, Waterkloof is a family-owned farm using organic practices. The farm is perched high up on the windswept Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay and The Atlantic Ocean. Living soils, naturally low yields and a long growing season help provide talented Cellarmaster Nadia Barnard with naturally balanced grapes that are imbued with a truly defining sense of origin. Those grapes are then transformed into wine with a minimum of intervention. The resulting wines are fine, inimitable and best enjoyed with food.

Passing Giants Pinot Noir

Passing Giants Pinot Noir

Passing Giants Pinot Noir

In November 2020 a severe frost proved calamitous to the young buds, followed by flailing hail and then major drought in the three months prior to the 2021 harvest. Much of this inclemency is down to the clouds than define New Zealand’s climate and, after all, its Maori name. The whole cycle of life is entirely subject to the whim of weather and its climatic intemperance. A fleeting hail storm can wreak havoc in a vineyard, just as the absence of clouds will assist frost in cold climes and lead to drought in summer. The arc of the whole vintage is defined by these ephemeral structures that are sent to bless with rain yet whose unpredictability shapes the resulting harvest. We celebrate those cruel, fecund, damning and wine-defining weightless gods-above in Passing Giants.

Production

This wine spends 10 months in new and older French oak barriques supports the fruit with a fine, gently toasty structure for a Pinot that is ultimately lifted yet generous.

Tasting notes

There’s a lot to enjoy here, from the darkly exotic allspice of the nose to the refreshing plum and milky cherry-chocolate generosity of the palate.

Food match

This wine is crying out for hoi sin sauce

Boutinot’s New Zealand wines are sourced from vineyards in each sub-regions of Marlborough – the Awatere, Waihopai and Wairau Valleys, as well as the breezier region of Waipara. These valleys have their own micro-climates and terroir which give a unique personality to the vineyards, grapes and finished wines.

Samantha Bailey brings her blending expertise and experienced palate to the fore in expressing the loveliest Boutinot wines from The Land of the Long White Cloud.

Yalumba has been developing its own sustainable viticulture program since the mid 1990s. This starts in the vineyard and extends to every aspect of winemaking, production, packaging and distribution. Many awards and milestones have resulted due to sustainability now being at our core. All Yalumba wines were announced vegetarian and vegan friendly as of 2011. Apart from economic viability and social equity, for us, sustainability is about biodiversity in our vineyards, says Winemaker Louisa Rose. To encourage it, we’ve done a number of things: we’ve reduced the amount of chemicals we use, incorporated an integrated pest management system, and encouraged biodiversity of vegetation in our vineyards”. Marras Swartland Shiraz

Marras Swartland Shiraz

Marras Swartland Shiraz

Marras Swartland Shiraz – On the nose the wine evokes juicy plum notes, rose petals and a hint of smoky spice. These characteristics carry through to the palate, with firm but smooth tannins, toasty oak flavours and a juicy finish.

The small and mighty label ‘Marras’ is led by talented young winemaker, Martin Lamprecht. He was a one-time student at Cederberg under David Nieuwoudt’s wing and has previously also worked in the Rhône. Martin brings fresh ideas to his current home in the Swartland, a melting pot for hot new talent and South Africa’s leading region for liberal winemaking and experimentation.

In his own modest words, “All I really do is take the grapes by their hands and guide them to where they want to be.” Using grapes from the vast plain and the elevated terroir of Piekenierskloof, he makes some bright new examples of Chenin, Grenache, and a Shiraz Cinsault blend.

From their perch in the lofty Piekenierskloof region, these dryland bush vines have seen and lived through it all; extreme conditions include temperature fluctuations, while being rooted in a dry layer of sandstone and granite soils with just enough water to produce grapes that add truly exceptional depth and complexity. Yip, these vines have stories to tell and they shout them loudly from the glass. The Chenin Blanc, Grenache and new Blombos Rosé offer out-of-this-world purity of fruit as well as a fine texture that sings with every single sip. You’ll have to finish the bottle to put the tales to bed.
